Peter secured a full-time solution developer job right before his visa’s expiry date. To him, it is a life changing event and he can now apply for work visa and sponsor his family to New Zealand from South Africa.

Hi guys. We’re here with Peter.  He’s just landed a job with Sandfield, a solution developer. Well done Peter. I’ve just got a couple of questions for you. What was it like before coming to Industry Connect? What was your experience

Before I came here. I came in January in New Zealand this year and since I came here, I was like I think most of the other people, going on Seek and Trade Me looking for jobs but the normal response that you get is, if you get a response. It’s an auto generated one that says on this particular occasion, blah blah blah. So after about three months, I felt that, you know, I was just walking into a wall all the time, not getting anywhere. And while I was searching for jobs, I came across the Industry Connect website. And, you know, I thought I’ve got nothing to lose, at least try something else. And I joined here and ever since I’ve joined, it’s been a great experience. I learned a lot. Not only technical stuff that’s been used in the industry here in New Zealand, but also a lot of soft skills like when it comes to interviews, how to prepare for it, just to be job ready as they say.  You know, they did a good job doing that and helping me where I’m at now.

Awesome. So you learned a lot when you came here.

Definitely.

What would you say to someone else who’s been in a similar position to you?

You know, I would say, like I said, I can’t see myself having a job without Industry Connect. I came here with my experience that I had from South Africa and I thought I’d get a job. But, you know, I soon realized that it’s not going to happen like that. So joining Industry Connect really gives you that advantage of teaching all the skills to be in the industry. And like they say, they make you job ready. So I think within a matter of a couple of weeks, maybe two months, you can get a decent job here.

Awesome. I think there’s a few things you wanted to say to a few people who’ve helped you along the way.

Yeah. I want to thank specific people. We are like family now after these couple of weeks but I want to start off with the owners, Ray and Andrew. You know, I think it’s a great idea that they’ve started and they are really helping this idea of the industry helping people. All the immigrants, getting a job here that, you know, we just need to work hard from our side. So Anita and Justin. And like the teachers, the guys that teach us at nighttime, all the technical stuff, Asheesh and Fraser. And last but not least, Shin. They were great teachers so thanks a lot for all of them. And if I miss somebody, I’m very sorry but that’s the guys that I can remember quickly.
