Srini has just found a new job as a software developer after joining Industry Connect. Before he set off into the sunset, we caught up with him to ask him about his time with us.
Can you tell me a little bit about your background before you came here to Industry Connect?
I have been a developer in New Zealand for more than 10 years, but I was mostly working on Windows Desktop applications, so I wanted to change to more modern technologies, and that’s one reason why I want to come to Industry Connect, and I think that helped me a lot.
So moving across from desktop oriented to the internet world, because internet programming is so big these days, isn’t it? So that’s what you were looking for?
Yes, because previously I had experience in these technologies in bits and pieces, but didn’t have a complete experience, that’s why I had gaps in my knowledge even though I worked in IT. SO I want to fill those gaps in my knowledge so I would be more confident in future projects in the best technologies.
I was looking into some self-study before joining Industry Connect, but I was lacking in practical knowledge in the large scale to be able to feel confident about the web technologies. After I joined Industry Connect I felt that the gaps were filled and I was ready to go.
It’s good to hear that we helped. And of course we also try to help with the soft skill side of things, I know a lot of people find that useful. Was that helpful for you?
Yes, absolutely. I can confidently say that every minute I spent at Industry Connect was really worthwhile. When I joined Industry Connect I was not expecting to learn soft skills and things like that, I was only expecting to learn the web technologies, so after I joined I was surprised to see how much I could learn here. Before preparing for interviews, I focused on everything I was told at Industry Connect and it helped me go a long way.
Well we’re glad it helped! So is there anything you’d like to say to someone in that position you were in previously -you know, trying to find a job somewhere – any advice you’d give them?
What I learnt here at Industry Connect was very pertinent to the IT industry, and the work being done at the moment in the industry. It’s really a practical experience, I gained real practical knowledge here, so I have no hesitation in saying Industry Connect helped me a lot, especially going for interviews.
Well that’s great to hear, thanks a lot and congratulations again on your new job as a software developer.
