Bhushan was of the former, and even though he had experience in India, it was hard for him to find a job in IT here in Aotearoa.
Fortunately, he found Industry Connect, and soon after he’s now working as a test analyst!
What experience would you like to share with us?
If people are just coming to join MVP studio, I would say always make sure you take that extra step, and whatever tasks you guys give, people should take it seriously because that’s the actual thing that is happening in the real world.
When people are really concerned about what they are doing, they should know what they are actually doing, so when asked in interviews what they’ve been up to, they can say immediately in detail what they’ve been up to.
In my interview, what happened is they didn’t go too much technical questions, there were more about what’s been happening in my situation. The first one was really really like just 15 minutes of interview with them. They just looked into my profile, and asked things like “just tell me about yourself” and “What are the tools you have been working on?” and “How much experience do you have?”
Since I had previous experience in my country in India it was a little bit advantageous, but still people were so much more concerned about what I’d been doing here in New Zealand.
So for the first round, it was only 3 or 4 technical questions, and then we chatted about the world and what’s going on with the coronavirus and stuff, and then I just walked out.
After 2 or 3 days I got a call saying I’d been shortlisted for the second round, and they already gave me details about what I would be asked about.
They told me 80% of my questions would be behavioural questions, so I started my process of preparing for it. All the questions were in and around what I have been doing with MVP Studio.
They were very specific questions, like “If something like this happens, how are you handling it during your internship?”
When I tried to talk about my old experiences, maybe from 3 or 4 years ago, they weren’t interested, they only wanted to know about recent times here with MVP Studio.
How did Industry Connect help you secure your job?
I would say it was one of the most important parts of my life in New Zealand.
I thought like, okay some people will just give me some experience so that I can use it in an interview but it’s not like that. It’s more than just an internship.
There are people there that are giving great information and advice, and if you take that advice and use it, you can get a job. When people ask me about my greatest accomplishment with MVP Studio I can’t put it into words.
Would you recommend Industry Connect to everyone?
Yes, of course, of course I would definitely ask people to do it as soon as possible.
When I first came to Industry Connect, I was thinking about it for a long time, because it’s a lot of money, and I was wondering “what if something goes wrong”, but it’s only now looking back I realise how important joining Industry Connect was.
The tasks they set can make a real difference to your career if you take it seriously.
I would definitely recommend Industry Connect, in fact, I’ve already told two people and I think they’ll join in the next upcoming session!
