If you can still have money coming in by working remotely, then you’re looking at the future. The world will be very different after all this, but as a developer you’re already ahead of the curve!
Wahid is the latest Industry Connect graduate to futureproof himself by landing a job as a data analyst.
Before he started on his new career, we caught up with him (remotely of course!) to ask about his time with us.
How did Industry Connect help you secure your job?
Throughout the entire program, including the internship, we were only taught about the practical work that gets done – it doesn’t start from the very basics. It also doesn’t start with the very advanced either!
The job I secured as a data analyst, I definitely considered this to be the perfect steppingstone for me, and that is exactly what I was looking for.
This was an experience that I didn’t have in my previous role. I did have financial analysis, but nowadays what is happening is the traditional financial analysis is we were just using the past 2, 3 maybe 4, 5 years maximum.
But with the new technologies we can go back and use as much data as we potentially need. This is where everything is going, so if I’m not equipped with the tools to use right now, then I would not be able to progress my career.
That is why I joined Industry Connect and it was definitely helpful as you can see.
Would you recommend Industry Connect to everyone?
Definitely. Definitely. It clearly helped me and I think this is the way to go.
Instead of doing the internship or attending Industry Connect I could’ve just started a university course, or even a diploma, but I highly doubt having a degree would matter without the experience.
I can definitely say that experience is more important than textbook knowledge. I’m still in the learning phase, I haven’t even begun learning. Because of my other full-time job role I missed the Zoom scrum meetings, but I watched them all back.
Some of the technologies, especially the current and emerging ones that were discussed, although I’m not working with them, it’s good to know about them and which tools will be used.
