Industry Connect give you what you really need in the industry, so you don’t waste your time learning a whole lot of different things that are unnecessary.
We like to target recent graduates who can’t get a job, people who have taken a gap year, and developers who want to change direction with their IT careers.
Annie was all of those things.
After graduating three years ago, she worked for a year and a half in IT, but then took a gap year. After joining us, she has now landed a job as a data analyst!
“I worked as a support a specialist for Apple for one and a half years and then I was like I want to do something I really like which was data and stuff, so yeah it’s sort of like changing careers but within IT.”
What would you suggest to those who want to get into the IT industry?
“If someone wants an IT career and they’re stuck because they don’t have any experience, what I would say is, for someone in my place, I didn’t know what software or technologies are currently being used.
It was only when I came to Industry Connect that I understood that people or companies nowadays are using a sequel server or BI tools and all of that. I didn’t know what’s in right now because I wasn’t doing it myself. But coming to Industry Connect I learned what the recent technologies are that are in demand so that really helped me.
And with Industry Connect, they only give you what you really need in the industry, so you’re not really wasting your time learning whole lot of different things that you don’t really need. IT is really vast, you can learn whatever, but you’ve got to make sure you’re learning what you need to land a job.”
Would you recommend Industry Connect?
“Yeah definitely I would. I have a few friends here who used to work with me in Apple as a product specialist and they were struggling to find a job, so they just joined call centres and stuff, even though they have good IT degrees.
I always tell them “You know you have to join because you’re passionate about this and that”, so I do keep telling everyone around me to join Industry Connect as it does really help and then it’s also up to you to learn too if you want an IT career.
Starting from the classes, understanding which technologies are used, then moving into the internship phase where you do the onboarding tasks, it kind of eases you in you know, eases you into practical work. It’s good because it helps you learn and you learn at your own pace as well, you’re not really rushed.
And then you have so much support around you, that’s what I really like about Industry Connect. Some seniors in some big corporations, they don’t really care about you, they think that everyone’s like, little, and you know they’re just people working but at Industry Connect everyone looked after everyone even though there’s so many people, but if anyone needs help they’re there and they’re like “Hey how’s it going?” and the good thing is that you all remember everyone so I really like that!”
