A test analyst job is easy to get, but only if you have the experience to nail the interview! That’s what Mandeep discovered after joining us at Industry Connect. Soon after, she landed her first job in New Zealand as a test analyst. We sat down with her before she left to ask her about her time with us.
First of all, congratulations on your new job! Can you tell us a little bit about your background, what were you doing before you joined us at Industry Connect?
Before joining Industry Connect I was working as a customer service representative. I worked as CSR for the last five/six years and I worked with different roles as well. I worked as the office all-rounder, in an administration role.
Even though I’m an IT graduate back in India, due to some gap years I couldn’t pursue my career in New Zealand, so after that I decided to join Industry Connect just to come back into my IT field after so many years out. Here I got really good exposure to software testing field as an intern here and learned a lot. I think whatever I have learned about software testing is from MVPs Studio and AimyPlus.
Yeah that’s definitely a pattern that we see; people who have got a qualification or some experience and then can’t get into the industry and having to work other jobs as office administration or customer support or whatever. and then the longer the gap gets the harder it is to get back into it.
So it sounds like you think this helped you so that that’s always great to hear. If you’ve got any advice that you’d give other people in the same position as you, is there anything you’d like to say to them?
Yes, definitely. I would say Industry Connect is a really good platform for beginners like me – after years out of the industry, you can start from here and you can learn the latest technologies and tools. Whatever they are using in the industry at the moment in the New Zealand market, you can easily learn from here.
Hari is she is a really good team leader at MVP and she really pushes you towards reaching your goals, so I’m really thankful to her and all those people – they really helped me in learning new tools and technology in becoming a test analyst.
I would say that you can join Industry Connect and you can learn a lot and you will get New Zealand market experience here. For those who are not having New Zealand experience you can gain valuable experience here and you can use that experience to get a job.
