Brisbane is the setting for our latest success story, with Omais landing a job as a data analyst/BI developer!
Just another one of the many people we’ve helped find work through our job-ready program, we caught up with Omais to ask about his time with Industry Connect.
Congratulations Omais on your new job as a data analyst AND a BI Developer! Do you think the remote internship help you?
Oh yes, it was very useful for me. During the lockdown, you still have to work, so I worked part-time and still did the internship. It being an online internship really helped me out, it was really flexible and a good learning environment. And it didn’t waste any time, it was very organised and precise.
What was your favourite part during your internship?
The best part? I would say the meetings I have with Rayshmar and Janta. It really boosts your confidence, having the technical skills is one thing but being in Australia and in New Zealand, it’s like “what kind of a partner do you have, what kind of a personality you have” – they see that during your interview so like that’s really helped me out.
Individually I’d like to thank Rayshmar as well, because she really helped me out with that one.
That’s great to hear. What would you suggest to others?
I’d say you have to take the risk. People wait a long time to just get it started with either an internship or something. I would say just do the internship with industry Connect or some other opportunity because you have to take the risk. If you don’t take it you won’t be getting anywhere.
Apart from that, don’t stop learning and working on yourself. If you’re going for an interview and you’re a technical expert, you still have to show them your personality. Try to show them you are the person for the job.

I already have! I’ve shown you guys to a few of my friends that are doing internships and they’re trying to find a job. Many don’t come from an IT background, and they’ve seen that it’s worked out for me really well. I’ve told them if they want to come to Industry Connect then it would be very beneficial for them.
