Back to New Zealand this week for more great news! Sejal has just landed a job as a senior test analyst after joining Industry Connect. We gave her a call to ask about her time with us and if she had any advice for those in a similar situation as she was.
Congratulations on your new job as a senior test analyst Sejal! Tell us, what was your favourite part of the Industry Connect programme?
The things I liked most were things like having your hands on whatever we were learning in those 6 weeks. The mentors were very good too and that was very helpful. My mentor was very good, her name was Raji. And it’s not just me, I’ve been hearing from my colleagues that they have been there for them too.
It took me a long time to get my CV, so the soft skills side of things are definitely worth it. MVP really helped me – I really enjoyed the chit-chat sessions we used to have, because it’s not like after 6-weeks, that’s it, it’s over – there is new things that we get through those sessions and they are really good. Small things that we can keep in mind, like how to talk while we’re giving an interview or what things to look for in an interview.
And the live skill sessions in preparation – everything was nice, everything was programmed according to our needs.
What would you suggest to other people joining Industry Connect?
Whatever task is given, please try to do it yourself. There are people to help you, they’ll guide you and there is lots of guidance given. I never found myself without help, so please contact your mentor or in question hub.
And please don’t get scared, sometimes it’s overwhelming, just do your best. In my case I was very lucky with my husband and my family supporting me a lot, so that’s important, that’s one thing you should have.
Whatever you’re taught, please try to do it hands-on, there are people to help you if you get stuck and push you to go further.
