Presila Mercado has a typical story for Industry Connect participants.
She arrived in New Zealand with a degree in IT, but found it worthless when looking for a job in the country because the market here is so different.

Settling for something else
“I struggled a lot in finding a job,” Presila told us. “I got lots of rejection, and then I finally said, I have to give it up, give up for the meantime and look for a job that could provide me with money.”
“I had to make money for my daily expenses. I need to eat and pay rent. I was thinking I would do waitressing for the meantime, and that would give me time to self-study at home because that’s only a part-time…
I worked for three years in that restaurant.”

“So in the middle of those three years, I discovered Industry Connect. The more I read about them, the more excited I got.
“I messaged them and they got back to me immediately, providing me with all the information I wanted and a time for a meeting.
At the meeting, I met the founder and owner, and he boosted my confidence. He was like “Yeah, you can do it! All you need is experience!”

“I got to learn about new tools and technologies, and which technologies companies are using nowadays.

Presila was working as a waitress with no hope of finding a job in IT, even though she had a degree in Computer Science.
Once she found us, we trained her, brought her up to date with the latest industry standards in New Zealand, and now she has landed a job as an Automation Test Analyst!
